Why Dental Cleanings Are Important
Just like people, pets need regular dental care to keep their mouths healthy. Dental disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs and cats—and it can cause pain, infections, and even affect the heart, liver, and kidneys if left untreated.
Prevent pain and tooth loss – Plaque and tartar buildup can lead to gum disease, loss of teeth, and
discomfort.
Protect overall health – Oral bacteria can enter the bloodstream and affect other organs.
Improve quality of life – Pets with healthy mouths eat more comfortably, play more happily, and have fresher breath.
The Role of Dental X-Rays
While we can see tartar, most broken teeth, or inflamed gums during an exam, much of dental disease hides below the gumline. Dental x-rays let us:
Detect painful root infections or bone loss.
Identify cracked or diseased teeth not visible to the eye.
Decide whether a tooth can be saved—or needs to be removed.
Extractions: What You Need to Know
During your pet’s dental cleaning and x-rays, we may find teeth that are too damaged or diseased to be saved. In these cases, extraction is recommended because it:
Relieves pain your pet may have been silently enduring.
Prevents future infection and complications.
Helps your pet live a healthier, more comfortable life.
NOTE: If extractions are needed, the cost will depend on the number of teeth and the complexity of the procedure. Some teeth are simple to remove, while others are more complex.
